First of all, the sound quality of this episode is terrible! We moved into a new studio and since we have no clue how all this equipment really works, we didn't set levels rightly. So, we apologize and are working to get it right.

Second, thank you for listening to the Front Pew! We are still talking about bad theology, and this week we wade into a discussion about the Keswick movement and their motto, "Let go and let God." What is this about, what does it mean and why is it bad?

Third, we are looking for a good name for our new studio! Send your suggestions, and any other comments/questions to frontpew1@gmail.com.

Fourth, the book we reference on this show is No Quick Fix by Andy Naselli. You can and should get it here: http://a.co/2SNplxu.

Fifth, subscribe on iTunes, leave us a review and share us with your friends!

Thanks for listening and enduring the bad audio on this episode.

Welcome to a new episode of The Front Pew! We appreciate you listening in as we talk about church things. This week we are happy to have a guest with us in the studio - Pastor Ken Furches - as we continue our conversation on bad theology.

Have you ever said, or heard someone say, "Well, you know, God will never give you more than you can handle?" Is there anything wrong with that? Listen in to hear how we break it down.

Feel free to connect with us via email (frontpew1@gmail.com), Twitter (@thefrontpew) and on Facebook. Be sure to subscribe on iTunes so that our new episodes will be automatically available to you, and if you can, leave us a review and share us with your friends!

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! As pastors we have all had to walk through those moments when a member of our church has espoused some really bad theology, or posted something questionable, or stated something that might be a popular thought, but a terrible theological idea. What do we do in those moments?

In this episode we begin to discuss this issue, and we start with the topic of heaven. We've heard plenty of bad theological ideas about heaven, like "God needed another angel," and "Heaven is sweeter now that Uncle John is there." How should a pastor handle these moments?

This week we welcome Dr. Doug Mize as our special guest to talk about the pastor as leadership!

Feb 12, 2018

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! This month we are discussing different roles and responsibilities that pastors have, and this week we wade into the topic of the pastor as a counselor. Every pastor is a counselor of sorts, and every pastor feels inadequate to be a good counselor. So, how should we view this role? What should we do in the counseling moment, and what should we avoid?

Thanks for listening to our little podcast. We enjoy doing it, and we hope you enjoy listening and that in some way it is helpful to you, either as you serve as a pastor, or as a church member in understanding some things pastors think about and deal with.

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! This week it is just Chris and Capps, and they are talking about the all important work of making disciples! We are all involved in so many different activities, whether it be at work, home, school or church. But the one activity that Jesus has specifically commanded us to be about is making disciples!

In this episode we also share the story of when the Capper had lunch with John Piper and sinned against him...you don't want to miss it!

Thanks for listening and supporting this little podcast...we hope that in some ways it is helpful and encouraging to you. Be sure to subscribe on iTunes, leave us a review, and share us with your friends. Seriously, if you are reading this, leave us a review!

Hey...it's a new episode of the Front Pew, a podcast for pastors, by pastors! Really, it is for anyone, and Ben isn't really a pastor anymore. Anyway, thanks for downloading and listening!

We are beginning a new series on the work of the pastor. This week we thought we would talk about the one thing that takes up the most time in the life of a pastor--preaching. What is it? Why does it matter? How do we do it?

We hope that this little podcast is an encouragement to you, whether you are a lead pastor, staff pastor, or church member. Be sure to subscribe on iTunes, write a review and share us with your friends!

Also, we would love to hear from you! Send us an email at frontpew1@gmail.com, a tweet @thefrontpew, or a comment on our Facebook page. Thanks again for listening!

Welcome to another episode of the Front Pew! We have been spending the month of January talking about some issues that pastors are often hesitant to talk about. Today we discuss discouragement in ministry. Every pastor knows what it feels like to be discouraged in their ministry, to wonder if maybe they need to find another place to serve, and to feel like quitting altogether. It doesn't matter if you are in a big or small church, if you are the lead pastor or staff member, or if you are new to ministry or a seasoned veteran. It hits us all.

In this episode we discuss our own areas of discouragement, and talk about how to manage it and find encouragement. We hope that this episode will help pastor and people alike!

We really appreciate your support of this podcast, and it feels as if our listeners are our friends! Please connect with us via email (frontpew1@gmail.com), Twitter (@thefrontpew) or on our Facebook page.

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! Thanks for listening! This week we are continuing to talk about some things that pastors avoid talking about. One thing that we are too silent about concerns our marriages, particularly when we are struggling to be a good husband. It happens to all of us, whether we want to admit it or not. Why is this, and what can we do about it?

We hope that our little podcast is an encouragement to you, and that in some ways it is helpful to your life and ministry. If after listening to this episode you have some specific questions for us, feel free to contact us at frontpew1@gmail.com and we will try our best to answer your questions!

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! During the month of January we want to talk about some things that pastors rarely talk about, and we thought we would kick it off by talking about "ministerial jealousy." Even though it is hard for us to admit, we are often jealous of other ministers or ministries. Why are we like this, and how do we overcome it? That is the subject of today's podcast.

We want to say congratulations to Grant Van Brimmer for winning the Front Pew mug. It will be an honor to have you drink hot coffee from our mug! Haymen!

We really do appreciate our listeners. Be sure to stay in contact with us either through email (frontpew1@gmail.com), Twitter (@thefrontpew) or on our Facebook page.

Make sure to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, leave us a review, and share us with your friends! Do it, or else we will send Bro. Tony to visit you!

Jan 1, 2018

Welcome to 2018! We are happy to celebrate with you here on the Front Pew. Thanks for listening to this new episode! Today, Ben and Chris look back and look forward as they share the events of 2017 that they believe will have the most impact on believers in the new year, as well as discuss one helpful tip that they believe can be beneficial moving forward.

We are so appreciative of our listeners and supporters. When we started this podcast, we hoped that it would be an encouragement to those who not only serve in pastoral roles in the church, but also those laymen and women who faithful support and serve in their local church. We feel like our listeners have become our friends, and we are excited to continue growing together in this next year.

With that said, we are working on topics for 2018. Send us an email at frontpew1@gmail.com, or contact us on Twitter (@thefrontpew) or drop us a line on our Facebook page and share some topic ideas with us.

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! We hope that you had a fantastic Thanksgiving celebration. Nov 20, 2017

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! We are thankful that you have joined us today! This week we are discussing two different issues. First, we weigh in on all the sexual abuse that is making headlines these days. How should we as Christians, and as pastors, think about this major issue? How should we protect ourselves and protect others that we lead?

Secondly, we talk about depression and sadness that seems to be more prevalent this time of year. With the time change, fatigue, crazy schedules, and a lot less sunlight, many people deal with what is called seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Pastors aren't immune to periods of sadness and depression...so, what should we do when we find ourselves in that cloud?

We hope these episodes are helpful to you. Please contact us and ask us questions, share comments, or offer ideas for future episodes! You can email us (frontpew1@gmail.com), Tweet at us (@thefrontpew) or connect with us via our Face Book page.

Nov 13, 2017

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! This week it is just Ben and Chris in the studio, as Matt is away on a marriage retreat. We decided to chat a little bit about the relationship between a pastor and a state convention or other network. Statistics show that the average age of pastors are increasing, and that younger pastors are not very interested in denominational convention meetings. We chat about why this might be, and how we should think about these types of relationships.

Also...we announce the winner of our Rock-tober book giveaway! Was it you? Listen in to find out!

We really do appreciate you listening to this little podcast, sharing it with your friends, and sending us little notes of encouragement along the way. Feel free to connect with us via email (frontpew1@gmail.com), Twitter (@thefrontpew) or on our Face Book page!

Welcome to a new episode of the Front Pew! This week we are concluding our chat about the reformation by digging into Semper Reformanda, which simply means that we are to "always be reforming" our lives according to the Scriptures. We discuss some areas that we think need to be always reforming in the life of the pastor and the church.

Also, Chris shares a brief update on his recent medical/health issues.

We would love to hear from you! You can email us (frontpew1@gmail.com), tweet us (@thefrontpew) or comment on our Face Book page. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, leave us a review, and share us with your friends!
